Accessibility Is Part of Our Mission — Because No Woman Should Be Left Behind
At RISING HerWay: The Women Rising Project, we are committed to building inclusive spaces — online and off. Our website, https://www.risingherway.net, is a core part of how we connect, serve, and empower military-connected women, and we believe everyone should be able to navigate it with dignity and ease — including individuals with disabilities.
What Web Accessibility Means to Us
Web accessibility ensures that all people — including those using assistive technologies such as screen readers, voice commands, or alternative input devices — can fully experience and engage with a website. It’s more than compliance — it’s respect. It’s equity. And it’s a non-negotiable part of how we rise.
Standards We Follow
We have crafted this site to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, which meets the requirements outlined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Kentucky’s state and local accessibility standards, including those upheld in Lexington, KY.
What We’ve Done — Site Accessibility by Design
As part of our commitment to accessibility, we have implemented the following features across our website:
-
Ran the Wix Accessibility Wizard to proactively address potential barriers
-
Set a clear site language for better screen reader compatibility
-
Ordered content in a logical, user-friendly flow
-
Applied clear, consistent heading structures throughout all pages
-
Added alt text to all key images to support non-visual browsing
-
Used color contrast combinations that meet accessibility guidelines
-
Reduced site animations and motion that could cause distress or sensory overload
-
Ensured keyboard navigation is supported across the entire site
-
Reviewed and adapted all audio, video, and downloadable files to ensure accessibility or offer alternatives
Partial Compliance Statement (Third-Party Content)
Our Mission
Some areas of our site may include third-party platforms or integrations (such as ticketing portals, YouTube videos, or embedded forms) that are not fully under our control. These may include:
-
[e.g., Donorbox or Eventbrite ticket pages]
-
[e.g., YouTube videos on retreat highlights]
-
[e.g., third-party event calendars or forms]
We are actively working to ensure all external tools meet accessibility standards. In the meantime, we declare partial compliance on those specific pages.
If You Visit Us In-Person — Physical Accessibility Considerations
While our in-person programs, retreats, and events are often hosted in partner venues, we strive to ensure:
-
ADA-accessible parking and drop-off zones
-
Wheelchair-accessible entrances, restrooms, and seating
-
Sensory-friendly spaces or “quiet rooms” available on request
-
ASL interpretation or additional accommodations available with advanced notice
Please contact us ahead of any visit if you need specific support — we will do everything possible to meet your needs.
